Bob begann seine Karriere als Lehrer an der St. Ann's School in New York. Dort entwickelte er eine Leidenschaft f\u00fcr das Modell der unabh\u00e4ngigen Schule, die ihn schlie\u00dflich in den Vorstand der Maret School und der Washington International School f\u00fchrte, wo er den Vorsitz innehatte. Nach seinem Jurastudium war er als Prozessanwalt f\u00fcr das Bureau of Competition der Federal Trade Commission t\u00e4tig und arbeitete anschlie\u00dfend als Rechtsberater von Kommissarin Elizabeth Dole. Viele Jahre lang war er als Partner bei Steptoe and Johnson in Washington, D.C., und in Br\u00fcssel t\u00e4tig. Heute lebt Bob mit seiner Frau Anne in Washington, D.C..
