Meera Sushila Viswanathan

Meera’s background with international learning and independence schools makes her uniquely qualified to serve on ASSIST’s Governance Committee.

After graduating from Stanford with B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Comparative Literature in 1985, Meera went on to serve as a post-doctoral fellow at Brown University, as a visiting research fellow at Kyoto University in Japan, and as adjunct or visiting professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, the Kyoto Center for Japanese, and the University of Jordan.

Meera’s impressive repertoire of completed and ongoing research spans a broad variety of cultures and circles, and she continues to remain actively involved in her community even as she serves as head of the Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, CT, where she and her husband, Eric Widmer (former ASSIST Board member), are currently living.
