For \u00e5 feire v\u00e5rt 50-\u00e5rsjubileum i 2018\/19 har vi samlet historier og portretter av personer og institusjoner som har hjulpet oss med \u00e5 bygge opp organisasjonen v\u00e5r, som startet som \u00e9n persons dr\u00f8m i 1968. Vi kommer til \u00e5 presentere \u00e9n historie i uken p\u00e5 bloggen v\u00e5r. I disse \"50 for 50\"-profilene kan du lese om ASSISTs engasjerte styremedlemmer, dynamiske medarbeidere, innbydende vertsfamilier og entusiastiske ASSIST Scholars.<\/em>

Rita og Attila
Ungarn, Kent Denver Country Day School og Williston Northampton School<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ASSIST ga oss mer enn et fantastisk \u00e5r i USA: Det utvidet horisonten v\u00e5r, vi fikk nye venner og en amerikansk familie, vi mestret det engelske spr\u00e5ket, og jeg fikk en retning \u00e5 g\u00e5 videre med p\u00e5 universitetet. Men alt dette ble farget av et annet resultat som vi virkelig kan si forandret livene v\u00e5re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

V\u00e5ren 1992 var jeg ikke klar over hvor heldig jeg var da jeg fikk beskjeden: Jeg hadde vunnet et stipend for \u00e5 tilbringe et \u00e5r i Denver det neste studie\u00e5ret! Det hadde bare g\u00e5tt tre \u00e5r siden kommunismens sammenbrudd i Ungarn, og jeg kunne ikke engang forestille meg hvor mye dette \u00e5ret ville forandre livet mitt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I august det \u00e5ret satte jeg meg p\u00e5 flyet f\u00f8rst til Z\u00fcrich, deretter til Boston, der orienteringen skulle finne sted. Det var 16 ungarske studenter til p\u00e5 flyet sammen med meg (den st\u00f8rste gruppen studenter fra Ungarn noen gang siden). Jeg husker den f\u00f8rste dagen i det store USA: den f\u00f8rste bussturen, den f\u00f8rste kvelden og middagen p\u00e5 St. Mark's School ... og f\u00f8rste gang jeg fikk \u00f8ye p\u00e5 en spesielt vakker jente: Rita fra Eger i Ungarn. Hun hadde kr\u00f8llete r\u00f8dbrunt h\u00e5r og vakre \u00f8yne. Hun var litt frittalende, men det er jeg ogs\u00e5, s\u00e5 vi kom til \u00e5 diskutere noe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De tre dagene p\u00e5 orienteringsskolen gikk, og jeg satte meg p\u00e5 et nytt fly, denne gangen til Denver. Selv om vi ungarere utvekslet noen brev i l\u00f8pet av det \u00e5ret, snakket vi ikke sammen eller traff hverandre (husk, dette var ikke engang f\u00f8r Facebook, men f\u00f8r Internett!). Jeg s\u00e5 henne igjen i 1993 etter at vi kom tilbake til Ungarn og gruppen bestemte seg for \u00e5 tilbringe en helg sammen. Vi tilbrakte hele natten med \u00e5 snakke ved leirb\u00e5let. P\u00e5 det tidspunktet visste jeg allerede at jeg elsket henne, men hun var i et forhold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Etter hvert som \u00e5rene gikk, holdt ASSIST en reunion hvert \u00e5r de kom til intervjuene i Ungarn. Jeg var med p\u00e5 hver eneste en av dem, men det ble f\u00e6rre og f\u00e6rre som kom fra min klasse for hvert \u00e5r. Rita var heller aldri \u00e5 se. S\u00e5 kom \u00e5ret 1998, som skulle vise seg \u00e5 bli det siste f\u00f8r ASSIST trakk seg ut av Ungarn for 5 \u00e5r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeg dro til gjenforeningen som vanlig, men Rita, som p\u00e5 det tidspunktet hadde begynt \u00e5 studere ved universitetet i Budapest, sa til moren at hun ikke ville dra. \"Du m\u00e5 dra, vennen min. Du vet aldri hvem du kommer til \u00e5 m\u00f8te\", sa hun til datteren, og til slutt gikk hun med p\u00e5 \u00e5 komme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resten er historie. Jeg inviterte henne ut, men hun kviet seg for \u00e5 si ja, og hevdet at vi ikke ville holde ut en m\u00e5ned... Det er 21 \u00e5r siden, og vi har levd lykkelig gift siden den gang, med tre nydelige barn. De er 14, 12 og 5 \u00e5r gamle. Vi hadde aldri m\u00f8tt hverandre hvis vi ikke hadde vunnet det stipendet. Takk, ASSIST!<\/p>\n\n\n\n



Om Attila og Rita:
Attila N\u00e1fr\u00e1di og Rita Sipos var begge medlemmer av ASSIST-kullet 1993 fra Budapest i Ungarn. Attila gikk p\u00e5 Kent Denver Country Day School i Colorado, mens Rita gikk p\u00e5 Williston Northampton School i Easthampton, Massachusetts. Attila studerte ved ELTE-universitetet i Budapest og har jobbet som flygeleder, sjefssimulator ved HungaroControl og forretningsutvikler ved Adacel. Rita studerte ogs\u00e5 ved ELTA-universitetet i Budapest, der hun tok en mastergrad i biologi og kjemi og en doktorgrad i mikrobiologi. Hun har tilbrakt karrieren sin som forsker ved ELTE-universitetet og som laboratoriesjef ved BIOMI DNA Laboratory. Paret bor i Budapest sammen med sine tre barn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
