Q: What are the expectations of an ASSIST Scholar?

ASSIST Scholars are expected to be:Dependable, responsible representative of their home country and ASSISTFollow all your ASSIST school's rulesBecome actively involved in your American school communityWilling to share his or her culture while learning from those around themReturn home after their year to share what they’ve learned, and to enrich their community with your new wisdom and perspective

Because our member schools and donors are deeply committed to our mission, every ASSIST Scholar receives a scholarship for their year abroad. This scholarship grants each student access to a leading North American private high school. In addition, scholars will become lifelong members of ASSIST, forming worldwide connections and joining an extraordinary network of over 6,500 accomplished alumni. This transformative opportunity opens doors and minds for lifelong successes.

ASSIST Scholarships

ASSIST Scholars receive a one-year scholarship to a leading private high school in North America, with comprehensive, personalized support from ASSIST staff in the U.S. or country coordinators in their home country, where available.

What is the difference between ASSIST's Sanderson and Lindfors Scholarships?

The ASSIST Sanderson Scholarship awards full tuition, room and board at a private American high school for one year.

The ASSIST Lindfors Scholarship awards approximately half the cost of tuition, room and board at a private American high school for one year.

Will I have the option to stay at my American school for a second year?

The ASSIST program is designed for one year of study in America, and the schools have committed a scholarship only for only one year. On a case-by-case basis, some ASSIST Scholars have been invited by their school to stay for a second year. Students have only been allowed to stay upon request by the school. Scholars are not permitted to approach the school to request a second year. The scholarship does not automatically renew and the financial details must be agreed to between the school and the family individually.

Partner Scholarship Programs

In addition to ASSIST's own scholarships, ASSIST is proud to offer access to scholarships through our partners, The Davis Scholars Program and The Kemper Scholar Program at Phillips Academy Andover. Applicants can be considered for all programs in one ASSIST application.

The Madeira School

The Davis Scholarship Program

The Davis Scholarship Program is unique in that it allows students to study for two or three years at one of the six boarding schools that are part of the Davis International Scholars Program. Davis Scholars graduate with an American high school diploma and may go on to study at a college or university in the U.S. or the U.K.

Davis Scholars receive:

$25,000 from The Davis Scholars Program towards tuition annually for their boarding school years. Depending on a family's financial need, the school will provide a scholarship for the remainder of tuition, room and board.
$25,000 towards tuition annually for four years of undergraduate work, if accepted to one of the UWC partner universities and colleges

Candidates from countries that are historically underrepresented at US boarding schools are welcome to apply. These include but are not limited to Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Somaliland, Turkey or Southern African countries.

The Kemper Scholar Program (Phillips Academy Andover)

Students who are awarded the Kemper Scholarship earn the opportunity to study for one year at Phillips Academy Andover, a boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts, as a 12th grade or post-graduate student. Students typically attend Phillips Academy the year after completing high school in their home country.

Students are awarded financial assistance sufficient to meet 100% of a family’s full financial need to study for one year at Phillips Academy Andover. Applicants will be required to complete a financial aid application.

Candidate eligibility requirements include:

Must be a European citizen
Not typically older than 18
Must be eligible to participate as a 12th grade or post-graduate student of Phillips Academy
Must be qualified to obtain a Phillips Academy diploma after successful completion of the academic year
Must NOT have previously studied in an English-speaking country for a semester or more

Upon completion of their year at Phillips Academy Andover, students must return to their home country for at least one year. For this reason, Kemper Scholars are not able to work with Phillips Academy Andover’s college counselors.

Who Should Apply

Students in the equivalent of U.S. grades 9 or 10 wanting to spend grade 10 or 11 in the U.S.(limited 12th grade and post graduate opportunities are also available.)
Those able to communicate proficiently in English
High achieving students with a strong academic record
Involved and curious school community members
Those eager to share their culture as ambassadors of their home country and learn within a vibrant and unique American education

Preparation

After pre-orientation in students’ home countries, the entire ASSIST class meets at ASSIST Scholars Orientation for five days. Together they learn, connect and prepare for the year ahead.
