Welcome to ASSIST Czech Republic

ASSIST became active in the Czech Republic to help young Czech students currently in the 9th or 10th grades who would like to spend one year as exchange students in the United States as 10th or 11th graders. There are also limited opportunities available to students entering the 12th grade and as postgraduate students.

Our work in the Czech Republic began in the 1994/95 academic year. Our first Czech scholars distinguished themselves in their American independent schools, and ultimately 136 Czech students have studied in the States through ASSIST. It is through the generosity of our partner,
the Bakala Foundation, that this scholarship competition is made possible.

Information Sessions

Please visit the Bakala Foundation website or email jirelova@bakalafoundation.org for more information regarding upcoming virtual information sessions about the ASSIST program.

Financial Support for Czech Scholars

American schools are generous in offering scholarships to ASSIST students. Throughout our time in the Czech Republic, ASSIST has identified sponsors to help students and their families pay for the cost of participating in the program. Many American donors have stepped forward to support deserving Scholars. Please visit the Bakala Foundation website for more news about this generous opportunity.

Application Process for Scholarships

Together with our Czech partner, the Bakala Foundation, we invite scholars interested in study in the US to apply. Students currently in Grades 9 or 10 are eligible to apply to ASSIST for placement in the 10th or 11th grade. There are also some opportunities available to students entering the 12th grade and as postgraduate students.

To apply for the 25/26 school year, you will log into ASSIST's application portal. The application process for scholarships for the 2025/26 school year will begin in early August, 2024. Once your application has been submitted, you will have access to a checklist listing additional required materials, like teacher recommendations and grade transcripts. We encourage you to check your applicant portal often to see the status of your materials.

Scholarships are also offered to boarding schools in the UK through our colleagues of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC).

To learn more, please contact our colleague at The Bakala Foundation, Ms. Karolina Jiřelová, at jirelova@bakalafoundation.org or visit the Bakala Foundation website.
