Welcome to ASSIST Spain

ASSIST Spain was established to help young Spanish students currently in the 10th grade who would like to spend one year as exchange students in the United States as 11th graders. There are also limited opportunities available to students entering the 10th, 12th postgraduate grades.

Our work in Spain began in the 1974/75 academic year. Our first Spanish scholars distinguished themselves in their American independent schools, and ultimately 563 Spanish students have studied in the USA through ASSIST.

Virtual Information Sessions

Please email Sam Lardner for more information regarding the sessions and to get your Zoom link to the meeting.

Application Process for 2024/25 Scholarships

The application process for scholarships for the 2025/26 school year will begin in early August, 2024. Once your application has been submitted, you will have access to a checklist listing additional required materials, like teacher recommendations and grade transcripts. We encourage you to check your applicant portal often to see the status of your materials.

To receive more information about the ASSIST program or if you have any questions about any aspect of the scholarship competition, please feel free to contact Sam Lardner.

Transcripts

Please upload your transcripts to the applicant portal.

English Language Testing

All applicants from Spain must take the Duolingo English Test. This test will measure the candidates' knowledge of the English language. This test is required to complete the application. The Duolingo testing fee is USD $59. Duolingo test results should be entered in the ASSIST portal, and a screenshot of these same results should also be sent to  Sam Lardner.

If the Duolingo test fee is beyond your family’s resources, please contact your country coordinator or assist@assistscholars.org to request a Duolingo test fee waiver.

Duolingo Tips for Your Test Experience

Interviews

After receiving completed candidate applications including academic transcripts, teacher recommendations and Duolingo test results, decisions will be made regarding those students selected to be interviewed.

Interviews are typically held in Madrid and Barcelona at the end of January. Exact dates will be provided in early 2025.
