Woody is the longest-serving ASSIST Board member, a Director since 1982. His breadth of experience in schools, fundraising, and intercultural connections makes him a tremendous asset to ASSIST. He has served on multiple committees over the years, most recently, the Development and Alumni Relations Committee. Woody served as one of the primary interviewers for ASSIST in Eastern and Central Europe, including Lithuania. Additionally, he held a leading role in interviewing applicants in Germany for over three decades. He serves as ASSIST’s Board Liaison to the Alumni and serves on the Campaign Steering Committee. Woody graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, then studied at Washington and Lee University. He received his M.A. from the University of North Carolina. Woody spent most of his career, 31 years, at Salisbury School, where he taught French and Spanish and served in many different administrative capacities (including Director of Admissions, Director of Development and Assistant Headmaster) before assuming the position of Headmaster at Beaufort Academy. Woody has served on numerous school and community boards. He is past chairman of the Historic Beaufort Foundation and is Chairman of ‘Thumbs-Up,’ an organization providing after-school tutoring for children from at-risk families, and of the Public Library Friends of Beaufort. He is also on the Salisbury School Board of Trustees. Currently, Woody resides in Dataw Island, SC.
